Welcome to our small and vibrant primary school

We are a close school community, who work to ensure we do the best for every single child. We put a strong emphasis on children's personal and social development and put children's happiness and wellbeing at the forefront of our work.

Since June 2019, we have been an academy and we are proud to be part of The Partnership Trust. We are very proud that our 2017 results put us in the top 5% of schools nationally for progress in both writing and maths, and the top 2% for progress overall. This was followed in 2018 by excellent progress scores again, above the national average and very significantly so in maths and writing.  Our success has continued and you can read more about our academic achievements here.  We are a very popular school, with 48% of our current parents having chosen Pensford despite it not being their nearest primary (Feb 2021).

Prospective parents

If you are a prospective parent, our one-page summary of our strengths may be useful for you.  We provide education in a small village setting to pupils from the immediate and surrounding areas, including Keynsham, Whitchurch and South Bristol as well as villages to the south as far as Midsomer Norton.

Is your child due to start school in September 2025?  If so, you may want to click here to contact us about a school tour.  You may also want to visit our admissions page.

Our school has developed considerably in recent years and many positive changes have been brought about, leading to our strong Ofsted report and very high levels of parent satisfaction.  Another thing we take pride in is that 100% of parents and carers have said (in our Ofsted Parent View survey) that they recommend the school to other parents. Our Ofsted report is here.

We are also very pleased to be working regularly with the local authority in BANES as part of their Affordable Schools Programme.  This means that we consider very carefully any costs such as uniform that are involved in sending children to school and work particularly hard to ensure that everything we do is accessible to everyone.

Our curriculum puts emphasis on the environment and nature, using our beautiful surroundings.  We involve the children in regular gardening sessions, and are starting to show them how to grow their own fruit, veg and herbs.  We have achieved the RHS School Gardening Level 3 award, and are now working on Level 4.

Want a place for your child at Pensford?

Every day is an open day at Pensford, so please do give us a call on 01761 490470 if you would like a tour of the school.  Outside school hours you can click here, or email us at pensford_office@pensfordschool.org , telling us the year group you need a place for and giving contact details including a phone number.  The school can also be open at weekends for visits (by appointment only). The application process is online and from September you will be able to register and apply here for Reception places in 2024.  If your child is already of school age and you are moving to the area, applications are made directly to the school so please get in touch to arrange a visit and to get an application form.

Free School Meals Information

At Pensford, children who qualify for free school meals also qualify for other benefits to help parents with the costs associated with the full life of the school.

If you want to find out whether your child could qualify, please scroll down our School Meals Information page.

If your child already qualifies for free school meals, please contact the school office to find out more about these benefits.t

REMOTE LEARNING

Now that we are operating under the 'living with COVID' strategy, children do not need to be tested for COVID even if they have symptoms.  If children do test positive, they need only isolate for 3 days and can then return to school if they are well.  Nevertheless, we can provide remote learning to children during that 3 day isolation period. This will be arranged with the teacher on Dojo.
